Last Summer Session of Dental School

Yep, it's true the Gurney family can now start the count down of "lasts" that might occur in Dental School. Today was the last Summer Session day I'll hopefully have at Creighton Dental School. It was a busy day. I saw an implant patient, seated a crown patient for my friend that just had his tonsils out yesterday, and then a denture check on one of my patients. Then when I thought all was well I was asked to see an emergency walk in patient after hours while I was working on my clinic schedule for August. Now, it's time for the summer to begin. Well....almost, I guess a week at The Ohio State University Pros residency needs to come first.

Porter's Birthday Party

We decided to do a birthday party for Porter before we left on vacation so that all of his friends could celebrate with him. It seems that we are always in Heber for Porter's birthday and that will probably be the case again this year. I could not have asked for a better party. Everything went very smoothly and I think that everyone had a good time. I loved planning it and making all of the fun preparations for it. We had it at the Westwood Height Sprayground, which is so much fun. All of the kids played in the water for awhile, then we had cake and opened presents, then the kids wacked the pinata, and then it was over! Porter loved his gifts and has been playing with them constantly.

Here is Porter attempting the Yoda pinata. That sucker was sturdy. None of the kids broke it open. We had one of the dads take a turn and he got it to break off of the rope, but I ended up dumping all of the candy on the ground for the kids to run and get. Poor Becca got wacked with the stick a couple of times.

I decided to just do cupcakes so there would be "less mess". I found some cute Star Wars rings that went with the theme.

Our homemade Yoda pinata. Lynn was the mastermind behind this one, but I did most of the work. It was a lot of fun to do. Do you think we could sell one like it on ebay?

Heard:
Porter-"Mom, I don't want to hold this!"
Me- "What is it that you don't want to hold?"

Heard:
Me- annoyed that it was taking forever to get out of the car..."Porter would you please get out of the car?"
Porter- "Thank you for saying please mom."

Seen and Heard:
Porter was cutting up little pieces of paper and after he had cut them up into micro pieces he came up to Lynn and said, "Dad, would you build me a spaceship with these?"

Seen:
Peyton climbing on the toilet and smiling like he was victorious.
Peyton putting a toy in the toilet and then putting his hand in his mouth before I could move him.
Peyton racing down the hall to try to beat me to the bathroom so that he can play in the toilet.
(It is a struggle everyday. You'd think we'd learn to keep the bathroom door closed.)

Heard:
We were at our friends house and they were packing to move. Larry says, "Hey Porter can we pack you up in that box to take with us when we move?"
Porter-"No, take Peyton."

4th of July fun part three...fireworks!

Later on in the day we went to Village Green for a BBQ with some friends from dental school. After the BBQ, we walked down to the elementary school to watch the fireworks that came from Rosenblatt Stadium. We waited and waited, but the fireworks didn't start until 10:30! It was an amazing show and we had a great view. Peyton loved the fireworks and clapped through the whole thing. The traffic was crazy and we didn't get home until 11:50. The kids were tired and slept in until 9:30 today! We had a great day and were very busy, but it was a wonderful way to celebrate our countries independence!

4th of July fun part two....the parade!

After we went to Desoto, we went straight to the 4th of July parade in Ralston, Ne. It was like your normal parade...lots of cars, clowns, floats, and.....STAR WARS. Porter was so excited! He wasn't sure what to think about getting his picture taken with a Storm Trooper, but he did it anyway. Both Porter and Peyton did not like the clowns. Porter hid behind Lynn whenever they came up to us, and Peyton started crying. We ended up with a pocket full of candy and happy kids!

4th of July fun part one...Desoto National Wildlife Reserve!

We started off the day by going for a nice hot run, then we decided that we wanted to get out of the city and go somewhere. We ended up going to Desoto National Wildlife Reserve. It was beautiful, very quite and so peaceful. We drove around and soaked up all of the surroundings. Porter was anxious to have our picnic, so we ate and just relaxed. We all agreed that we needed to come back again soon to go fishing and tour the museum.
